My responsibilities teaching developmental reading and writing, music appreciation, film appreciation, and (occasionally) literature and anthropology courses. I serve on academic committees as needed, advise and tutor students, chair the Reading Assessment Committee, participate in English Department activities, and currently conduct research on why students don't read.I wrote and was awarded a $7000 grant to coordinate a Work Group developing models for implementing traditional Sa'ah Naaghai Bik'eh Hozhoon paradigm in the classroom.I have taught for the College three times: August 1985-August 1989, 1993-1999; 2006-present.

I directed a program funded by a grant from the Office of Indian Education, US Department of Education.It was a joint Dine College/Arizona State University master's program for Navajo K-12 teachers. I recommended faculty, oversaw the delivery of classes, hired consultants, supervised staff, prepared quarterly reports, managed program budget, and provided for students' varying program-related needs and requirements.

I taught linguistic anthropology, cultural anthropology, and women's study classes at the undergraduate and graduate level. During this time, I also carried out research on the social construction of the constrasting social identities of residents of the Arkansas Ozarks. I also continued with the research on Navajo language shift that I began as dissertation research and published as "Language Shift among the Navajos" with the University of Arizona Press.
