Provide support to the Performance Assurance and Quality Assurance Departments. Lead and participate on internal and external assessments and surveillances. Develop and revise policies, program plans, and procedures to meet NQA-1 and DOE Order requirements. Participate on management reviews in order to collect facts when an incident occurs. Perform corrective action verification and corrective action effectiveness validation.

Performed audits of Los Alamos National Laboratory suppliers for potential placement on their qualified supplier list.

Participated in the transition of science activities from the Management and Operating contractor to the Lead Laboratory contractor. This included the establishment of the QA program and supporting document management system to address NQA-1 and DOE Order requirements. Maintained the documents that comprised the contractor's QA program. Participated in external and internal audits and surveillances of contractor activities including areas such as corrective action, data management, scientific modeling, document development/control, records management, software development, training, and measuring and test equipment. Participated on the Lessons Learned screening team to evaluate problems, issues, and best practices that occurred within the industry for applicability to the Yucca Mountain Project. Participated in management and self-assessments used to identify areas of improvement. Worked with the contractor staff to provide support regarding QA matters.

Integrated the functions/activities of approximately seven staff members in the areas of independent and self assessments, issue/deficiency corrective actions, document hierarchy and development, requirements management, and lessons learned. This included oversight of all aspects of the work, interactions with the customer, and interface with other project organizations. Developed and revised policies, program plans, and procedures to meet NQA-1 and DOE Order requirements. Participated in management and self-assessments that were used to identify areas of improvement. Worked with the Department of Energy staff to proactively address QA matters and assist in interpreting QA requirements. Developed corrective action plans to resolve issues/deficiencies. Provided support to Department of Energy staff in developing performance metrics. Assisted the client with coordination of all independent assessments conducted of project activities by external organizations. Assisted in developing and implementing action plans for various management improvement initiatives

Developed and revised procedures to address NQA-1 and DOE Order requirements, and ensured requirements traceability was maintained. Reviewed design documents, procedures and other program documents to ensure the documents addressed the appropriate federal and regulatory requirements. Evaluated issue/deficiency responses and verified completion of corrective action plans. Participated on the Process Validation and Re-Engineering effort which was used to assess the Project’s most important processes and make them more efficient.

Assigned as the Nonconformance Reporting Coordinator which included validating nonconformance reports, evaluating dispositions, and verifying the completion of dispositions. Evaluated issue/deficiency responses and verified completion of corrective action plans. Reviewed procedures and other program documents to ensure compliance with NQA-1 and DOE Order requirements. Verified compliance to QA requirements through the review of matrices that linked requirements to implementing documents.

Participated on audits and surveillances of program activities. Participated in approximately ninety percent of the surveillances conducted to ensure quality assurance controls identified in design specifications were addressed in implementing documents.

Participated on independent assessments of program activities to verify implementation of the QA program. Developed management plans, procedures, instructions, and strategic plans. Directed and participated on several organizational quality improvement teams. Assigned as the project leader for the independent assessment program, which included the development and coordination of a company-wide consolidated assessment team. Developed and presented assessor and lead assessor training courses.

Participated on audits and surveillances of program activities. Reviewed participant quality assurance program plans, procedures, and requirement traceability matrices to ensure they met QA program requirements. Maintained the auditor and lead auditor certification files. Presented the quality assurance portion of the Yucca Mountain Project Orientation.
