Gemmologist, Diamond Grader, Jewellery Valuer, Author, Nerd, Geek and Jewellery Historian.Deborah is half Italian and half British, started her journey through the world of gemstones in Germany in 1984 where she studied at the Deutsche Gemmologische Gesellschaft in Idar-Oberstein, attaining her Gemmology and Diamond diploma; she subsequently gained her FGA in 1986.Deborah remained in Idar-Oberstein and went to work for the trade there, buying and selling wholesale gems and diamonds, working as a gemmologist and teaching gemmology at the Deutsche Gemmologische Gesellschaft, this lead on to carrying out jewellery valuations for an insurance company in Germany. She moved to the UK in 2010, where she became a tutor for the Gem-A’s (Gemmological Association of Great Britain) online courses. Keen to add to her knowledge, started to study again and passed the NAJ/IRV’s (National Association of Jewellers/Institute of Registered Valuers) CAT (Certificate of Appraisal Theory) jewellery valuation diploma. Her thirst for knowledge not quenched, she studied History of Art at Goldsmiths University attaining a BA writing her dissertation on ‘The Resurgence of Contemporary Gemstone Carvers and Lapidaries Artistic Status’, and further on attained an MRes (Masters in Research) disserting on ‘The Aesthetics of Contemporary Jewellery’.She contributed with several written chapters for Vladyslav Yavorskyy’s book Terra Connoisseur: Gemstones.
