Experienced leader in civic and economic development for cities. I direct the Anchor Economy initiative at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. This high priority initiative identifies the impact that eds and meds have on the economies they're in and also provides a foundation in research and data collection to think about eds and meds as pillars of economic prosperity. Prior to my role at the Fed, I led Campus Philly for ten years. Campus Philly, a driving force in Philadelphia's talent and economic growth, is a nonprofit organization that partners with 30+ colleges and universities and 50+ corporate members to help students fall in love with Philadelphia and launch their careers in the city after they graduate. Before Campus Philly, I was research director at Visit Philadelphia, where I led their research and strategy efforts from 2003 to 2008. I trained in market research --qualitative and quantitative -- at The Melior Group, a market research consulting firm in Philadelphia. I began my career in academics, receiving my PhD in political science from the University of Chicago, followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Columbia University. The focus of my work was in political philosophy, specifically on the question of how much we need to have in common in order to tolerate our differences.
