Then the summer of 2000 we were able to start summer camps and it just grew from there! I juggled my teaching job with SSP for a couple of years and then in 2002 and I was able to leave teaching and work full-time as the executive director at SSP. The job included everything from hiring and training staff, program development, website development, registration, facility/equipment maintenance and repair, fundraising and events.

We worked with the City of Seattle, who eventually inherited the land from the Navy, once the base was closed in the mid-nineties. During this time we met occasionally to discuss RFP's and funding for the venture.
