Deb works at Othram as a forensic genetic genealogist.She previously worked as an independent genetic genealogist on unidentified decedent and cold case crimes for law enforcement agencies and medical examiner offices and resolved more than eighty unknown next of kin cases for coroner's offices. As a Court Appointed Special Advocate, Deb developed and implemented a county-wide CASA family-search protocol to locate relatives and reduce foster children’s stay in stranger foster care. She transformed her investigative and genealogy skills into genetic genealogy work for clients. Deb's writing has appeared in The New York Times Motherlode, Foster Focus Magazine, STIR Journal, Manifest-Station, The Oregonian, The Portland Tribune, and The Portland Upside, as well as anthologies, online and print journals and newsletters. She has been a featured speaker on OPB "Think Out Loud", CASA, Oregon Children Services Division, foster parenting organizations, "Listen to Your Mother", and other literary events.
