As a Science and Art Attendant, my two main responsibilities are security/health and safety and visitor experience. As part of the Facilities team I am involved in evacuating the building in the event of emergency, ensuring the safety of museum objects both on and off display and of the museum's visitors. I also take my status as an ambassador of the museum to the public with the upmost seriousness. I make it my goal to ensure every visitor to the museum experiences the National Collection in the most fulfilling and enjoyable way possible.

This position required me to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to maximise visitor satisfaction and ensure the general cleanliness of the building. It involved the completion of cleaning tasks, customer interaction and administrative duties. My role as the team member in charge of the changing room and swimming pool areas introduced me to a wide variety of gym users. I was often the first staff member approached by gym users with an issue or complaint, and am therefore well-versed in conflict management. I used these interpersonal skills and my own initiative to handle problematic situations ranging from gym users taken ill, to angry or unhappy users to more extraordinary problems such as disputes between gym users.
