As Deputy Director I am responsible for managing the team based in both our offices in Belfast and Derry, as well as managing elements of our wider community development programme and capacity building initiative. Cara-Friend works with LGBTQ+ youth across NI, including the provision of safe-space youth groups, one-to-one support, training and education, and our LGBTQ+ Inclusive Schools Programme. My responsibilities, as well as line-management, include partnerships and strategic development of the organisation, which has seen Cara-Friend grow from an organisation of three staff members with one LGBTQ+ youth group to eight staff members and seven youth groups in the space of three years. I am also responsible for securing funding - from government, corporate partners and charitable trusts. I have overseen the design and implementation of our LGBTQ+ Inclusive Schools Programme - the first of its kind in Northern Ireland - which has seen rapid growth since its introduction in 2016. As part of our community development programme in Cara-Friend I have run several various events with the aim of engaging and educating members of the wider community, including a history festival in February 2018, an Interfaith Dialogue in August 2017 and a number of youth forums throughout 2018.
