Profile bio

About Greg Hughes

Highly experienced school senior leader and Physics teacher with extensive knowledge of the effective use of learning technologies across the curriculum, on both a classroom and a strategic level. In recent years I have embraced the challenge of adapting CPD and EdTech implementation to dovetail with challenging political directives in education. I am used to planning and leading on multiple, complex projects, involving large budgets/teams and tight deadlines, ensuring that they achieve impact and sustainability. In my current role I have driven the successful 1:1 iPad programme at one of the largest UK secondary schools, The de Ferrers Academy, since 2012 and as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) advised hundreds of other schools and educators on their own ICT projects. I plan and lead CPD delivery at the Burton-On-Trent Apple Regional Training Centre (RTC) and served on both the ADE and RTC Advisory Boards, in addition to being an Apple Professional Learning Specialist (APLS). I also now lead digital strategy across all schools of The de Ferrers Trust as Trust Leader. As a Head of Physics for 10 years in my previous school, I worked all over Birmingham supporting other schools whilst also encouraging major uptake of girls into A level courses and degree level Physics. I was involved with the University of York & Edexcel on the Salters-Horners A level Physics development, including rewrites of the AS and A2 textbooks in 2007-2008 which involved liaison with Science organisations over content and images, including NASA, Thinktank & Birmingham University.I have been fortunate to deliver numerous keynotes, webinars & training workshops at global events for companies including: SSAT, Frog, Academia, Derby Museums, ASCL, SYNC, Espresso, BETT, Apple & UK Universities. These have included hands-on technical workshops, seminars on integrating EdTech into the curriculum and keynotes sharing approaches to effective leadership and digital strategy. Currently, I'm involved in several projects looking at STEM, effective leadership of learning technologies and why some schools get it so right and some get it so wrong. Increasingly, it is clear that the focus should be less on the technology itself and more on relationships, empowering all staff as users and embracing challenge & risk.I continue to be in the unique position of being a school senior leader and a trainer/CPD facilitator whilst still teaching 6-7 hours a week, so I practise what I preach. I don't just want to be the best I can at what I do, I want to help everyone else to be their best too.

Listed skills include Educational Technology, E Learning, Curriculum Development, Educational Leadership, and 32 others.
