Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) is the fifth-largest library system in British Columbia. We serve over 430,000 people on Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii and the Central Coast (Bella Coola) through 39 branch libraries, our eLibrary, and books-by-mail service.My role is to promote the library and its services throughout the entire region through the use of digital media. We have Facebook pages for each local branch as well as active Instagram and Twitter accounts. I believe the strength in our system is actually the incredible diversity within it. What started out as a personal archive of family stories and recipes has evolved into a lifestyle blog. I share personal anecdotes about large families, travel, food and traditions. I have begun to interview local chefs and business owners to discover what makes our beautiful island unique. I hope that people will share in my journey and continue to support me in my explorations!

After a Bachelor of Education degree many years ago, I realized I wanted to return to school, but my passion has shifted into more of an entrepreneurial head space. After completing several business, marketing and management course at VIU, I feel confident I made the right choice!

During my time as the owner/director of a Performing Arts Academy in Smithers BC, I was responsible for creating schedules for over 300 students, co-ordinating and supervising instructors, recruiting high calibre guest teachers for workshops, working with local, visual artists for summer fine arts camps.

I was the founder, owner & educator of a home-based design firm, I did personal consults for clients both residential and commercial, including overall spacial design, colour selection, home efficiency and organization, renovation plans and general layout. Over the years I grew a word-of-mouth client base from five to well over 500 residential and commercial clients. I also wrote and presented adult classes in Home Decor & Design.

As the co-owner of a floral and design boutique, I was responsible for hiring and training staff, flower ordering, arranging, co-ordinating weddings and display. Our store led the trend of a fresh, modern design esthetic among Smither’s Main Street stores
