Current• Creates original cross-disciplinary curriculum that is aligned with English Language Arts and Social Studies Common Core Standards. Focus areas include: completing writing workshops, identifying literary elements, understanding historical context, comparing primary and secondary sources, analyzing literature, etc.• Designs daily lesson plans that incorporate auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning opportunities while maintaining a rigorous focus on key reading strategies such as annotating, inferencing, summarizing, and interpreting the deeper meaning of figurative language in context. • Differentiates instruction for English Language Learners (ELLS), special education students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), children with 504 plans, and those performing above grade level. Scaffolding strategies involve--but are not limited to--developing personalized assignments and instruction tools in addition to incorporating technology resources such as Google Classroom, NewsELA, Flipgrid, Quizlet, etc.• Administers an after school standardized test-preparation course to prepare students for annual assessments, cultivate key skills and decrease stress. This course results in students exceeding district and state scores on New Jersey's PARCC exam. • Nurtures students’ emotional development by leading a weekly advisory class focused on conflict resolution, self esteem enhancement, peer pressure resistance, self-regulation of emotions, and navigating through societal issues.
