Deirdre Moore holds a master’s degree in education and is passionate about building greater understanding across disciplines by using authentic experiences that engage and motivate learners. As an Arts Integration Expert and Education Consultant with roots in Special Education and teaching certifications in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and California. Deirdre is highly respected in her field as a knowledgeable, caring and inspiring teacher. She uses evidence-based strategies for curriculum development, behavior analysis/management, and discipline management/strategies when providing training and advice for members of the educational community. She helps them discover how to apply best teaching methodologies and instructional technologies into practice for a wide range of diverse learners and setting children up for success in the classroom.Integrating the Arts with STEM education, (science, technological, engineering, math) creates a STEAM education, which utilizes teaching-learning practices that have been shown to develop a better understanding and long-term retention of knowledge and allows students to leverage both hard and soft skills to solve problems.With a STEAM education, schools provide their students with a “well-rounded education” as mandated in accountability review systems. By exploring a broader range of interests, students develop their own unique creative talents, whether in science and technology or the arts. Deirdre is an educator with over 20 years’ experience facilitating learning with students from infants to professional adults in subjects ranging from general education to discrete arts and the integration of the two. She has worked as a professional development facilitator and teaching artist for the VAPA Department of SDUSD, an elementary level teacher of performing & visual arts and a teacher of Music Together, an early childhood music and movement program. She also supported the implementation of the Turnaround Arts Initiative in a local elementary school. In addition, Deirdre works as a writer, presenter and mentor for Education Closet, an online resource for K-12 educators in Arts Integration and STEAM. Deirdre believes experiential learning provides an equitable learning environment for all learners and promotes parent involvement to create value by encouraging their children to develop their own unique talents — in whatever discipline it may be. This ultimately helps young people to make good choices in education and careers.
