As someone who struggles with mental illness, I know firsthand the impact that a good therapist can have on someone's life. After being diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder my freshman year of high school, I began seeing a therapist who was able to help me learn to manage my disorder and live my life in spite of it. She has inspired me to pursue a career in therapy, in the hopes that I can help people in the way that she has helped me.I plan on majoring in social work, and will begin my college experience at USU in the fall of 2022. After obtaining my bachelor's degree, I will go on to get my master's in social work. From there, I plan to become a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Utah. Some steps that I have already taken to prepare for this education path have been taking AP Psychology (and passing the exam with a score of five), taking a class entitled Introduction to Behavioral Health, and learning from some wonderful therapists at Hobble Creek Behavioral Health where I am currently an intern. I have loved my time at my internship so far, and am so grateful to the amazing people at Hobble Creek for being to welcoming to me and helping me to learn so much about the occupation that I aspire to obtain. I have always been interested in psychology and what makes people do what they do, but learning about it in school and at my internship has introduced me to topics such as trauma, play therapy, sand tray therapy, Exposure Response Prevention therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and a more holistic approach to the human experience in general. Learning these things has made me even more interested in and eager to enter the field of therapy. I love learning about and helping people, and am excited to make that my career!
