I am a soon-to-be K-6 educator with a certification in Teaching English as a New Language. I am passionate about teaching for justice and disrupting oppression in school systems. I am proud to be a Hudson and Holland Scholar here at IU as well as a Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholar. I will be student teaching in Spring 2024, completing eight weeks with a third-grade class in the Monroe County Community School Corporation. I will spend the next eight weeks teaching English in Costa Rica through IU's Global Gateway for Teachers Program. I am looking for a full-time teaching position for the 2024-2025 school year.My work as a substitute teacher through Westfield Washington Schools, as well as my practicum experiences as an undergraduate at Indiana University, have given me valuable experience in building effective relationships with students and implementing instructional strategies. Through my work as an instructor in the Saturday Science for Kids program at the IU School of Education, I had the opportunity to write, implement, and reflect on lesson plans that I wrote specifically for first and second-grade students in the context of a larger unit. During my time at Indiana University, I have also made sure to take advantage of unpaid opportunities to advance my skills and experiences related to my career. I participated in a case challenge focused on protecting youth mental health after the pandemic. This was a real-world, problem-solving competition focused on offering practical ideas for improving actual P-12 educational settings through research. At the end of the competition, we had the opportunity to present our case to experts in education from all over Indiana and get feedback. I also served as the diversity, equity, and inclusion chairwoman for my sorority for a year and participated in a program called IU Mentor Collective, where I received guidance from a mentor whose background was in education and technology.I consider myself a lifelong learner and I look forward to furthering my skills and learning more in the field of education. I am grateful for any opportunity that comes my way.
