Profile bio

About Delme Thomas

I have just completed an MA in Events & Experiences Management at Goldsmiths University, where I passed with Distinction and was awarded The Gold Award. Everything I do is centred around stories, and I work with people across various fields. I help create events and craft experiences, from live productions to video games to immersive audio experiences. With a 14-year background in the arts as an actor, writer and maker, I bring the indispensable skills I have developed within that world to the experiential space. That creativity, combined with the practical skills learnt in my MA, gives me a multi-layered skillset. My interests cross the borders of world-building, immersion, and elements of play within transformative experiences that transport people from their everyday lives.I'm a multi-award-winning creative who has worked worldwide, including the West End and Off-Broadway. I am an Associate Artist with Fast Familiar, a digital studio that creates ‘audience-centric’ experiences. Together, we have devised and co-written a host of experiences, from interactive video games to audio walks and research tools. In 2022, I worked at Lush’s Global Flagship Store on Oxford Street as a Supervisor and part of the In-Store Events team. The events I curated for the store were unique, immersive experiences designed to captivate the customers with a high level of interactivity. Notably, I designed and led a highly successful not-for-profit ‘London Pride’ weekend-long experience, as well as a month-long ‘Plastic-Free July’ celebration that led to a 13.93% increase in gross profit of 'naked products' from the previous year, with a 15% increase in sales of units.

Associate Artist

Current

London, England, United Kingdom

Within my residency at Fast Familiar, I work with the team to co-operate on creating experiences and crafting stories. This has seen me take on many roles, such as a writer, collaborator and workshop facilitator. The projects I have collaborated on include video games, immersive theatrical events and digital experiences like audio walks and AR projects. One of our pieces, Curse Of The Burial Dagger, was the winner of 'Best Mystery Game' and semi-finalist for ‘Players' Choice' at the 2021 Bullseye Awards.

Mar 2016 - Present

Box Office Assistant

London, England, United Kingdom

Working within a small, dedicated team to sell tickets to West End productions. This involved liaising with producers to organise tickets for VIPs and guests, working with ticketing agents to allocate seating and deal with payments and refunds, plus engaging with customers face-to-face and over the phone/email. The job involved managing the daily money and takings, as well as working the fast-paced and highly pressured ‘incoming’ period of 6.00-7.30 pm – handing out tickets to customers, dealing with any problems that may arise, last-minute sales, and making sure all audience members present had their tickets by curtain-up. The job also involved working the ‘on-sale’ days, when a new season or show becomes available for public purchase. The largest on-sale I worked on was Spirited Away at the ENO. I took more calls and made more sales than any other team member present that day, and as a team, we helped to bring in a record-breaking amount of profit for the company.

Global

The skills I learned as a creative performer have set me up for a successful career outside of acting. I performed in front of thousands of people at a time, giving me confidence in my presentation skills; I had to build tight-knit units with fellow actors in a short space of time, gaining essential interpersonal skills; I had to work under incredible pressure, especially when productions weren’t ready but had to be presented to the public as a finished product, as well as having to cover other actors who were indisposed at the last moment, increasing my improvisation skills. I had the opportunity to travel globally with my work, giving me worldly confidence and a talent for interacting with people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. It has gifted me with a creative, curious and inquisitive brain, allowing me to approach tasks with imagination and think outside the box.I learned stage-craft, storytelling and how to work with lighting and sound to build environments and experiences.

Aug 2010 - Jul 2023

Supervisor & In-Store Events

London

As part of the management team, I dealt with the daily running of the Global Flagship Store, managing a team of up to 20 staff daily. I had to adapt to ever-changing circumstances, whilst always being open and calm. The events I created for the store were one-off, immersive experiences to capture the imaginations of the customers, with plenty of interactivity. The success of my final event, a month-long “Plastic-Free July” celebration, saw an increase in gross profit of "naked products" at 13.93% from the previous year, with a 15% increase in sales of units.
