During this time, I conducted full-spectrum communications across a variety of social media, public speaking, video, and other engagement platforms to inform, and reassure, the more than 2,000 Marines (and family members) that I was personally responsible for. This proved critical managing the challenges presented by multiple overlapping crises such as Hurricanes Florence, Dorian, and COVID-19. In this capacity, I oversaw a small team who tracked, assigned and processed more than 1,300 reports (including requests from Secretary of Defense, both branches of Congress and from the White House), as well as the internal processing of an additional 2,400 subordinate level reports.In these roles I was recognized as a “stellar performer,” who “excels at mentoring and motivating” my personnel through “superior leadership and coordination skills, and an ability to process large volumes of information.” I remained “poised and confident under pressure,” at all times, and was purposefully selected for this position “due to the complete trust and confidence the chain of command has in [my] judgement and decision making ability.” [All quotes from military awards]During this time, I am proud to have participated in the recovery of an American hero, CAPT Scott Speicher - may God bless his soul and his family be at peace.
