Board MemberLawrence Community Works Apr 2012 - Sep 2018Lawrence, MaI was nominated and elected as a Board Member April 2012. Since I have joined, I have been serving on the Board Governance Training Committee and the Finance Committee. We have been working together to develop policies and procedures on Board training. Simultaneously, we are working with staff on the yearly Annual Meeting event, making decisions about various details. Also, we held our first Mixer event inviting the new nominees and interviewing them for a possible position on the Board. The Board is reviewing the first Strategic Plan that evolved from an event that we attended discussing the potential and possibilities of a sustainable, workable and attainable 3 Year Plan. Hosted an event for nominees for open Board positions, creating an agenda and questions for the nominees, preparing food, invited several board members. The event was very successful. It is challenging and exciting to learn these new skills that we will all benefit from.

Turf FellowObama For America Jun 2012 - Jul 2012Washington D.C. Metro AreaThere were 55 fellows selected out of 300 people, out of the 55 fellows, 8 were selected as Turf Fellows to oversee a Ward I was one of the 8 people chosen to oversee Ward 7. My responsibilities included organizing and coordinating a weekly phone bank, finding a venue, having lists from Votebuilder for volunteers to call constituents from, then check off results from the phone calls. The volunteers' weekly phone call goal was 300-500 calls per week total, my weekly phone call goal was to call 200 constituents, and input all resulted information. Eventually, I trained all volunteers to input information into Votebuilder themselves. I had to find and attend local events and ask constituents to put their information on the sheets, introduce myself to local officials, attend any and all events to get to know the community, drop off Votebuilder call sheets to constituents that preferred to make calls from their homes. I had to create and oversee a core team to ensure that tasks were completed, such as, creating and overseeing the Facebook page for our Ward. All Fellows were required to be on conference calls, mandatory meetings, marched in the parade, drove to Virginia in groups to talk with people about the President for re-election, and was responsible for making sure the volunteers who showed up received training, all paperwork was filled in, etc. Had to volunteer so many hours a week at the DNC office to make phone calls. This was an exciting learning experience, and great leadership training. -
