As an executive officer doing this job has been fun. I became a young entrepreneur owning my own business opening up in 2006 in my early 20’s out of necessity. My doctor told me to lose weight. I was involved in the PERSPECTIVES corp. Day Program at the time and I saw an occupational therapist doing a movement class. I then volunteered to help her with the classes and they eventually hired me. Then I got the idea to turn it into a business. It is now a non-profit and going for more than 10 years later.When I go to a school classroom or adult venue and the clients faces light up it is a humbling and rewarding experience. I love knowing that they’re having a fun time. Having great experience in a no judgement zone as well as wanting us to come back each and every week! We have received cards, letters telling us we are doing a great job from individuals who get to participate. I also have a disability. This has not stopped me! Each and every day is very rewarding and very fulfilling!Bee in Motion, is a mobile movement therapy workshop, as a means for students and young adults of all abilities to explore self-expression and non-verbal communications through movement and music. I have developed a repertoire of movement exercises that stimulate changes in brain chemistry and effect positive alterations in emotions, thoughts, physical functioning and behaviors. I facilitates a 45to55 minute workshop that incorporates music, singing, instrument playing and parachute work into a cohesive series of therapeutic exercises that provide sensory stimulation and social inclusion for up to twenty participants.Based on the understanding that the body, mind and spirit are interrelated, movement therapy is defined by the American Dance Therapy Association as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to further emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration of the individual. At all times, I strives to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and learning regardless of ability. I have created Bee in Motion as a vehicle to encourage self-discovery in others and to promote the expression of inner feelings through music and movement. I am proud to have our Nonprofit 501c3 StatusWe periodically host dances and other events in the evening with adults with disabilities in the community
