Prior to forming 1-VoIP, Smith served as one of Platinum Equity’s Chief Executive Officers responsible for the operations of the Matrix Telecom portfolio including Matrix Telecom, Claricom Networks and Clarity Communications. Smith joined Matrix Telecom as Chief Executive Officer in February 2002. While at Matrix Smith managed a staff of approximately 150 employees with offices in Oklahoma City, Dallas, Chicago, Santa Ana, Rochester and Green Bay serving 30,000 small business customers and 40,000 residential customers located throughout the United States.Mr. Smith joined the Platinum Equity family in June 1998. Prior to his roll as CEO he served as vice president of business development at DCA Services for Platinum Equity working on merger and acquisition opportunities specifically targeted at Platinum Equity’s telecom holdings. With a 23-year background in telecommunications, Mr. Smith was instrumental in Platinum Equity’s acquisition, transition and operations strategy involving Matrix Telecom, DCA Services, Billing Concepts, Operator Service Company, International Exchange Communications, Claricom Networks, Clarity Network Services and most recently the small business division of Global Crossing.Prior to the above, Mr. Smith was with Zenex Communications as vice president of operations.While employed by LDDS, Mr. Smith formed Touchtone Solutions, a company contracted by LDDS to work with Digital Switch Corporation to create and deploy Oversite, LDDS’s first nationwide switch monitoring service.
