Profile bio

About Dennis Premoli

I am a driven Materials Engineer with a passion for aeronautics and space. I am a maker and an engineer at heart, who loves to tinker and work with new technologies. After receiving my master, with award-winning work on Nickel superalloys, I received an offer to pursue a PhD in Advanced Metallics in collaboration with Rolls Royce. My focus is on the cutting edge, which is why I have chosen to pursue a PhD and to work side by side with industry in the fast-paced field of aeronautics. My project aims to develop a new breakthrough technology, in the form of Machining Force Feedback, to quickly and efficiently provide a comprehensive microstructural map of large aerospace Titanium components, and to seamlessly integrate within the production environment. This is a project that combines many of my interests and which holds enormous industrial potential. As a quadrilingual international student, having studied all my life in International and European schools, I'm extremely adaptable to new environments and people. I have also had the chance to travel extensively in these past years, allowing me a unique opportunity to experience a multitude of ideas and cultures. I enjoy and seek out the opportunity to interface with a wide range of people, including age and background. STEM outreach volunteering, as well as working with prospective and undergraduate students, has offered allows me to share my love for STEM and my experience as a student including any advice, I may be able to share.📸Banner Photo : A picture I took of an additively manufactured internal structure, made at the University College Dublin (UCD). I have also carried out my own experiments, collected and interpreted data to reach a final conclusion. This was a great opportunity to observe materials science in action, but also to be able to contribute with knowledge gathered during the many extensive research projects undertaken during the previous university years. These included skills such as planning and execution of experiments, as well as determining possible improvements to both testing procedures and also the larger production process.I am pleased to have also learnt immensely from this experience, both academically and scientifically, but also regarding good business practices, logistics, legislature and systems management. These are all aspects that I was missing as a student and, I think, only real time spent on the ground, in industry, can offer the wider perspective needed to leave part of the rigidness of an academic environment behind. Thanks to the long history of the company, I have also had the chance to visit over 25 other industrial plants of suppliers, clients and collaborators, to observe more industrial processes than an eager materials scientist could ever dream of, such as: aluminum ingot and billet production, extrusion and rolling, steel manufacturing with continuous casting techniques, fuse cast refractory production, plastic and scrap metal waste separation and recycling, waste incineration, glass and cement manufacturing, low and high-pressure die casting, and technical gas production.
