During my time at CMU, I worked in the structures lab to aid my mentor and PHD student, Alexandra Ion and Yuyu Lin respectively, on developing a passive, bistable orthotics mechanism that could be used to accommodate the force necessary to straighten and/or bend a finger. In addition, I participated in critiquing our lab group's research papers, and I met with our team two times a week to discuss project goals and progress.

At the Human Engineering Research Lab at Pitt, I worked alongside a mentor as well as a peer, Hannah Visnick, to develop a mechanism that could safely hold a wheelchair in any standard vehicle. My constraints were to make the device cheap and purely mechanical. During my time in the lab, I built up knowledge of SolidWorks, which I used to model the device; technical writing skills to write a paper on my methods and work; and I learned communication skills that I used to present my work in front of an audience of people. Also, I made a bunch of friends along the way.

Over the summer, I helped mentor a group of 40+ incoming freshmen on how to traverse college and become accustomed to college life. In addition, I was on the academic team, which means I taught a group of 15+ students alongside a University professor. In my case, I taught the Precalculus class. I worked around 20+ hours a week for 6 weeks teaching the course during review sessions, helping to structure learning with the professor and adjusting plans to better fit the needs of the class.
