Deon led and coordinated the technical and project management teams acting on the owner’s behalf of Debswana ensuring Project Review Support (Concept, Pre-Feasibility A & B and Feasibility Study Phases) for open pit mines were provided to EPCM’s and Owner’s Team, including governance using the APW and IDM Methodology before presentation to the Boards of Directors. He controlled and coordinated QA/QC locally and internationally. In addition, driving the cost of quality and producing lessons learnt for improvement driving profitability.Deon has many years’ of experience in Projects, which includes the successful implementation of the most important project in the world for BHP Billiton in Richards Bay (Reduction B & C Environmental Upgrade – Bayside Aluminium) as Project Specialist for the Mozal Plant to be constructed in Mozambique and an additional pot line installed at Hillside Aluminium in Richards Bay. Deon is an experienced Project Management Support/Controls Manager for Anglo American in project estimating, planning and cost control, on multi-discipline projects and played a leading role in the setting up of PMO’s/PSO’s at Anglo American Platinum in conjuction with ABAS while participating in Anglo American SiB Project Methodology standardization throughout the world. Deon set up the Enterprize schedule for all SiB Projects at Anglo Platinum and engaged with Anglo American to ensure Major Project Schedules and review dates were aligned and coordinated correctly for board reviews. He provided training to EPCM’s and Anglo Employees to familiarize themselves and adopt the prescribed Anglo American Project Way Methodology (APW). His experience covered mining, mineral plant, piping, smelting, installations, electrification, instrumentation and automation. He assisted in supporting project control structures for new projects, integrating scope, schedule, cost /budget and EPC risk evaluation. Developed, implemented and optimized master schedules complete with interrogation of performance measurements and month-end project reports. Deon has provided Stay in Business (SiB-Sustaining Capex) Project support at PMO’s in Botswana ensuring a diligent process has been followed including supporting documentation assisting Project Managers, that seek Anglo American/De Beers approval. Deon interacted and worked in conjunction with Executives, HOD’s, General Managers, Programme Managers, PMO Managers, Engineering Managers, Project Managers and other Professionals at Anglo American and Anglo-American Platinum.
