About Derek Parks
Having been in the military and then college, my career includes only a single employer and find myself in a unique position as I'm currently transitioning from this long tenured position as a Senior Software Engineer after a company-wide layoff. This sudden layoff has allowed me to take some time off as a 'reset' of sorts and think, recharge, and focus on the next leg of my career. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with fantastic people and on rewarding projects while at my last employment. The software product teams I led create not only millions in direct revenue but also new customer opportunities, product bundling, and residual sales for the company by extending our market exposure.The most enjoyable and rewarding project I've fortunate to have been a part of touched so many aspect of the software industry; programming, networking, web applications, cloud, embedded, full-stack, CI/CD pipeline, customer, reliability, distributed software, just to name a few. As I look back on the years spent with the team, I can only thank my lucky stars to have had a foot (or hand) in so many areas to help me in this transition by expanding my skills and experience. The breadth of knowledge is invaluable to not only me but my next employer as, on paper, i am a valuable asset and will prove it when given the opportunity.My hobbies include spending quality time with the family, reading both novels and non-fiction, fishing, DIY and home-improvement.
