As a senior portfolio manager in the RCUK Energy theme my primary responsibilities were the management of the Hydrogen, Fuel Cell and Energy Storage research portfolios as well as the management of the over arching Supergen portfolio. A significant focus of my role was the delivery of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund project the Faraday Battery Challenge. Through working with colleagues across UKRI and externally such as the Automotive Council and the APC, we worked closely with industry and academia to deliver the £246M investment in novel battery technologies. This challenge spans not only fundamental through to high TRL research but signifies a step change in programme delivery for the Research Councils and IUK.

Worked in the Mathematical Sciences theme delivering portfolio management of the Pure Mathematics portfolio which provided me with the opportunity to engage with the UK Mathematical Sciences community around the three EPSRC corporate strategies. My role focused on enabling the community to aid EPSRC in delivering the best strategy for each research area.

My research focused on the synthesis of a variety of nanoconjugate scaffolds for the simultaneous and multiplexed detection of biomolecule interactions using SERS.

For my MSci in Chemistry I trained as an Analytical Research Chemist for one year at Novartis. This position was mainly laboratory based with a specific focus on learning various chromatographic and analytical techniques. The position also involved me working as part of a large team of 10 analytical chemists, which troubleshoot various synthetic problems for the other 100 synthetic chemists on site. On a daily basis, I was required to communicate with various groups within the site via oral and written communication.
