Chief Officer and step up to Master as required. My Chief Officer duties include those of the Environmental Officer in charge of implementation of the ship's garbage management plan. I am also responsible for Ballast operations onboard and responsible for ship's stability at all stages of each voyage.I am Head of department for the Deck department, consisting of around 25 crew and Officers normally. Management duties include assigning rotas and work in coordination with the Bosun, constructing leave schedules and recruitment of new personnel. Also in charge of the upkeep of all exterior decks (including alot of teak and stainless), maintenance and use of ship's tenders, boats and watersports equipment.On my current vessel I have been involved (at the top operational level in the owner's team) in several major dry-docks and refit periods, to include major paint works, installation of several new technical systems and the usual periodic surveys and statutory requirements. As a self-managed vessel the responsibility of liaison with class and flag state falls with me.When acting as Master I focus on the day-to-day operation of the vessel from a technical and administrative standpoint, including routine inspections and disciplinary procedures. I am a confident ship handler, having manoeuvred in a large variety of commercial and private ports in a multitude of weather conditions.

First Officer on large private yacht (100m+). Duties included solo watchkeeping, upkeep of bridge equipment and logbooks, passage planning and chart/publication corrections (both paper and electronic) and overseeing maintenance and ordering of all safety and lifesaving equipment.Also designated Ship's Statutory Safety Officer and therefore responsible for investigating any accidents onboard and compiling reports and passing recommendations on to the Master on all aspects of shipboard safety. Also responsible for conducting crew training and safety familiarisation.When required I am also assigned to drive ship's tenders and instruct crew in tender driving and navigation procedures.

Solo navigational watchkeeping in heavily congested and busy traffic areas.Frequent daily arrivals and departures as part of the Bridge team - I gained much valuable experience in heavy weather manoeuvring due to having to operate in restricted waters and strictly regulated port movements.Experienced in cargo loading to meet tight time schedules - this also included stability assessment and dangerous cargo planning as part of the loading plan.

Navigation officer - directly responsible to the Master for all stages of passage planning on paper chart and ECDIS folios. Responsible for upkeep of bridge equipment and ensuring correct logbook entries. Also responsible for compiling voyage data and presenting it to various departments.LSA Officer - responsible for the inspection and upkeep of the ship's lifeboats, liferafts and related life saving equipment. I was assigned a 2 man team to assist, to whom I assigned daily tasks and received constant feedback.

As Second Officer I was assigned numerous duties, including:Officer in charge of portable fire-fighting equipment. I was assigned 2 team members to assist in maintaining the ship's equipment, and was responsible for implementing the planned maintenance system in that regard before reporting work and materials used.Fixed fire-fighting equipment - I was designated to inspect and test the ship's sprinkler systems and fire damper systems, and subsequently assigned to cooperate with ship's engineers to resolve any discrepancies.

Senior Officer in charge of a bridge watchDesignated GMDSS operator and responsible for GMDSS tests and logkeeping. Responsible for testing and maintenance of portable fire fighting equipment (extinguishers, hoses, BA sets etc.).
