I started my career as a subcontractor for all-con roofing. During my time there I learned the labor side of the roofing industry. My job on the crew was material procurement, driving services, removing shingles, and attaching new ones. As I pursued school I took a different job at Herbert construction as an estimator/Project manager. While at Herbert I was responsible for preconstruction estimating, and creating construction documents and shop drawing to be used in the field. The company was a residential concrete company, so I was exposed to wide varieties of plans for home designs. I worked on projects such as multimillion dollar mansion while simultaneously completing estimates and/or drawings for standard cookie cutter homes. When I had completed my degree I became a land surveyor for Gaskins Surveying company. There I learned how to operate Robotic totaling stations efficiently. I quickly became one of the best and driven surveyors they had. I completed tasks in half the time it would take other crews. My job was station setup and operation. I made decisive calls on where to stop a survey and how to proceed with obtaining accurate and relative information. Appalachian foundations, a residential concrete company, hired me to operate their totaling station, to layout their concrete foundations. This process involved the use of the ICON app to sketch the design then setting up the station to layout the corners of the walls. I would determine necessary wall heights and locations of sewer and water lines, as well. I assumed other roles at the company such as an equipment operator, and material distributer.
