I managed the content we received from digital content vendors and made sure it was stored correctly in our proprietary online content repository, and delivered through our web application and e-commerce portals. I worked with our IT consultants onsite to help develop scripts and standards that took client data and transformed it to system-required specifications. This included writing command line scripts in Unix and Ruby to transform content to compatible encoding. The project was divided into 2 parts. One involved receiving content from vendors in various encodings (ASCII, ISO-8859-x/Windows 125x, UTF-8/Unicode), transforming it to Unicode in a MySQL Unix DB (which served as our online content repository), to be delivered and cross-compatible on Mac 8+ and Windows Vista+, also requiring cross-browser compatibility on IE 6+, Firefox 3.0+, and Safari 3.1+.The other involved creating XML files and standards to unify client data. This was before Common Cartidge, so everyone had their own titles and fields of Metadata. The scripts we wrote not only scrubbed content to eliminate excess data, but also populated our XML files with the field names that were required to properly be imported, implemented, and searchable in the Learning Object Repository.
