About Derek Olson

Researcher and educator in acoustics, oceanography, and signal processing. I am interested in all aspects of high-frequency acoustic interaction with the ocean environment. I specialize in acoustic scattering from very rough interfaces, and other complex environments. I am currently working on measuring scattering from rock outcrops in Monterey bay, and developing approximate models to deal with these very rough surfaces. I also use numerical solutions to integral equations (e.g. the boundary element method (BEM)) to test, and motivate my theoretical work.
