About Derek A Province

It was my senior year of high school, sitting in a meeting when I felt a call so strong and true that I knew what I was going to do with the rest of my life. It was a vision where I saw Jesus wrapping his arm around me and then pointing to world, saying, "go." I was going to carry the gospel to ends of the earth, to the most remote and rural places, to the people that were lost and neglected, I would be a missionary.I have trekked hundreds of kilometers on a bicycle and thousands on a dirt bike in the rural bush of Zambia, Africa, where I saw God touching lives and His truth changing entire regions. In the small towns in northern Saskatchewan, I taught a discipleship class to Christians who yearned to learn and grow.Being a missionary is the dream job! While reaching out to some of the most remote parts of the world, we are carrying life changing news that empowers people to live freely and change the environment around them. And now this is what we are seeing in the Amazonian jungles of Brazil. Our family (My wife Chelsea and my two sons Jonah (4) and Elias (2)) moved to Manaus, Brazil 4 years ago with a vision to see the lost and neglected peoples of the Amazon infused with the Kingdom of Heaven. We are finding and raising up Christians, teaching them and training them with a solid foundation in the word of God. From this group of students, more full-time missionaries will join our time and begin ministering out in the interior of the jungles. As our team grows, so does our reach into the hidden and forgotten places along the amazon river and its tributaries. Our mission is not complete until the whole Amazon has heard of the goodness of Christ! If you would like to hear more about what we have going on, you can subscribe to our newsletter by messaging me your email address. Also check out our team at: www.overlandmissions.com

Country Administrator

Current

Manaus, Amazonas

As Overland continues investing in the country of Brazil we are working to build a strong team that will be deployed into the Amazon region. My main role as a country administrator is planning, facilitating and executing what it takes to bring in and maintain our incoming missionaries. This includes responsibilities such as working with immigration for visas, expedition trips, finances, and more. All these with the goal to insure the ministry can continue to grow and thrive while respecting local governing laws and regulations.

Apr 2018 - Present

Sector Missionary

Nyawa Chiefdom In Zambia, Africa

After graduating from AMT, I began working in the Nyawa sector. During this time I worked under and alongside an experienced missionary. This position gave me the opportunity to glean wisdom about the ins and outs of rural ministry, as well as witnessing an example of someone faithfully serving God, family and team. I partnered with a young local, who worked as my translator, fellow minister and companion for the thousands of kilometers traveled down dirt roads and foot paths of the bush. We explored new villages and carried the Gospel into the furthest unreached places.

Aug 2009 - Oct 2011

Expeditions Leader

Zambia, Africa

Overland has many pillars that support the vision and ultimate goal of bringing and establishing the Kingdom of God throughout the earth. One of these pillars is expeditions that are sent every year into sectors around the world. I had the pleasure of helping lead several expeditions in the rural bush of Zambia, Africa. Part of my responsibilities as an Expedition leader was preparing and planning the logistics for teams of 12-24 short term missionaries. These teams would come into the country and then be deployed into small communities in the bush, where they would stay and minister in an impactful way for around 2 weeks. As a team leader, I was responsible for the logistics, safety, well being, and productivity of our team. Being young in the ministry, this was a great time of growth for me and showed me how to build a team and the importance of it.

May 2010 - Sep 2011

Missionary

Global Ministries And Relief

Saskatchewan, Canada

It was the president of Global Ministries and Relief that first saw the potential in me, a young high school student with a burning call in me to reach the nations. He helped raise me up and equip me for full time missions and after my missions training, my wife and I were then sent to northern Saskatchewan, Canada. There, I had the pleasure of teaching a school of ministry to the local church body. As our vision was an extensive one to see a region changed, we also spent time investing in the local body by leading the youth group, helping coach and volunteer in school sports teams, and family ministries.

2012 - 2014 ~2 yrs

Associate Pastor

Gateway Church Of Richmond

Richmond, Indiana, United States

Gateway Church of Richmond has been my home church for many years, and I had the pleasure to serve as Associate Pastor for an interim. While my wife finished her nursing degree, I was able to experience and gain a greater understanding of the work of a pastor. Being a part of the pastoral team allowed me to witness the administrative and leadership side of church leadership. Including the interrelationships built between pastor and his team, the church body and those outside the church. Witnessing the often behind-the-scene labors of a pastor and his team caused me to have a much greater honor and respect for full-time pastors.

Nov 2011 - Apr 2013

Certified In Amt (Advanced Missions Training)

Rapid 14 Missions Base In Zambia, Africa

Advanced Missionary Training (AMT) was a three month course in Zambia, Africa in which a team of leaders trained me both spiritually and practically in order to bring the Gospel into the unreached places of the world. The course consisted of 17 different classes: Ministry Ethics, Preaching, Sector Management Development, Cross Cultural Communication, Such a Great Salvation, Missionary Theology, Wilderness First Responder certified by SOLO, 4x4 Recovery Driving, Bush Cooking, Come Back Alive Survival Course, GPS Navigation, Expedition and Mission Training, Vehicle Mechanics, Guest Ministers, Workshop, Leadership, Final Presentation: Sector Research Project.
