- Responsible for overall community hospital Electronic Health Record (EHR) Product strategy, as it relates to configuration management, automation, and user experience. Team had 5 Engineers and Software Engineers. Our hospital system consisted of 199 hospitals in 29 states.- Established team to develop automation and configuration management tools in an effort to reduce application and infrastructure stack variation across the enterprise Medhost clinical platform; utilized Agile project management, Spring Framework, and Continuous Integration testing with VMware, Packer, Vagrant, Chef, and Jenkins.- Team delivered real-time user response time monitoring solutions for Medhost clinicals platform to improve clinician experienced; technologies utilized included Spring Framework (Spring Web, Spring Boot, and Spring data), Spring XD, ActiveMQ, Hadoop, and Hive. Data collected provided direction for several application optimizations and improved clinician experience in a number of areas.- Improved overall application response time by 250% through middleware and database optimization recommendations to EHR vendor.

- Managed team of 17 FTEs & 8 contractors responsible for the infrastructure design of all technologyverticals at CHS. Responsible for all network, storage, and compute infrastructure architecture strategy. Reported directly to CTO.- Created & developed PACS imaging archive migration tool to seamlessly migrate imaging databetween Carestream RIM to enterprise Acuo VNA platform. Accelerated and reduced theestimated migration timeframe from 3 years to 6 months with a projected OpEx savings of $10.5m.- Responsible for oversight of enterprise technology design – included hardware, database,virtualization, and middleware strategy, design, and implementation. Architecture team consistedof 6 solution architects with breadth and depth across many technology verticals.- Established process adherence with application product teams and business partners to createarchitecture framework based on TOGAF and Gartner models for corporate IT solutionsarchitecture. Created artifacts and established cadence with IT executive management/businessstakeholders to review all IT architecture models and roadmaps.- Lead team to design, engineer, and implement the centrally-hosted Cerner Millennium 2012infrastructure at the Birmingham Data Center. Built the $18minfrastructure capital budget required for the centralized Cerner environment and programmanagement of 20 resources & 2 project managers throughout project, 10 facility go-lives, andoptimization phases. Optimized & managed overall project cost compared to originalCerner bill-of-materials through virtualization and consolidation.

- Responsible for all architecture design leveraging EMC & IBM storage, Oracle, DB2, IBM i, andUNIX/Linux technologies. Day to day responsibilities include briefing CIO & VP-level leadership,project management/budgeting, and developing technology roadmaps for the organization.- Developed corporate critical systems disaster recovery abilities leveraging EMC VMAX & SRDFreplication for corporate general ledger, payroll, and data warehousing systems. This solutionimproves upon the previous DASD-based solution by reducing backup windows and achievingperformance SLAs – providing 99.999% availability.- Initiated project to re-engineer the Horizon Lab platform that CHS deploys to larger, competitivehospital markets. Leveraged the IBM POWER platform and virtualized Oracle RAC to consolidatethe Horizon Lab platform on the CHS Common Technology Platform. Greatly reduced theamount of time to deploy the Horizon Lab solution, as well as developing a framework to ensureconsistent deployments. Reduced organization CapEx spend by $10.5m.- Oversaw & managed software engineering efforts to package McKesson applications. Built a 5member team with diverse skillsets ranging from Oracle DBAs, UNIX/Linux Engineers, andSoftware Engineers to reverse engineer the installation processes for the respective applicationsand use RPM/Puppet to deploy. This packaging effort has reduced Meaningful Use-relatedapplication deployment timelines by 50-80%.

- Lead a team of 11 engineers & contractors that worked primarily on engineeringprojects related to storage, UNIX, and IBM i-related solutions. Responsible for design &implementation of McKesson Horizon & Healthcare Management Systems clinical solutions on acomplex, virtualized platform that consists of IBM POWER, Oracle, DB2, and VMware. Managedenterprise storage and midrange systems project budgets in excess of $5m annually.- Developed and implemented enterprise disaster recovery strategy to protect critical corporateclinical & financial systems responsible for revenues greater than $300m annually. Technologiesutilized included IBM SVC, Global Mirror, VMware SRM, Tivoli Storage Manager, FalconStorVTL, and Cristie TBMR.- Lead effort to architect & engineer hospital virtualization solution leveraging Oracle on IBMPOWER, VMware, and Linux that would ease time-to-deployment for McKesson HorizonMeaningful Use ARRA Stage-1 applications. This work involved working with software vendorsand going beyond supported requirements. $400m in recovered revenue with virtualization overdeployment of physical database and application servers. Reduced project CapEx spend by$20.8m.- Designed & deployed IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC) within corporate datacenterenvironment to increase manageability of the corporate SAN infrastructure. Reduction of 30+segmented SAN environments to one, and decreased annual SAN CapEx spending by $5m.Enterprise project management metrics after SVC deployment demonstrated significantlyincreased SAN provisioning ability to customers and ultimately, providing storage-related taskoptimization of infrastructure-related projects.
