About Derek Patterson
I have worked as a professional programmer for over 10 years, with at least two of these years in a lead role and 6 in senior position. In this time I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects including voip/chat applications mobile apps, photo kiosks, large interactive touch screen displays, web programming, financial systems, database structure and optimization, web-based application security and research into new technologies and algorithms. I am comfortable working in both individual and team environments.I have earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Manitoba. Over the course of my education I studied advanced graphics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and user interfaces. I also completed courses in physics, astronomy, philosophy, German and French.I am committed to further developing my programming skills and spend my spare time developing apps, building robots, researching AI topics, generating graphics, making games and visual effects. In June 2014 I gave a talk on modelling human emotions in machines at the Vancouver Maker Faire.
