Derek was the 2010 Chair of the Board for The St. John's Board of Trade. The St. John’s Board of Trade is one of the largest Chambers of Commerce in Atlantic Canada and a leading voice for business in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Board represents over 800 companies employing 30,000 people. We are a non-profit, non-partisan association that speaks on behalf of business in all industries in our business community. Successfully launched, grew and managed a multimillion dollar IT consulting practice as a division of Triton Data Inc., a company with a history in insurance software development. (Triton’s consulting practice was subsequently acquired by zedIT solutions in January 2008.)

Worked with Management, staff and external resources as necessary to develop a three year strategic plan for growth and evergreening process, Key Performance Indicators, annual customer service measurement and brand elevation strategy.
