Hello there! I am Derrick Tan, a self-proclaimed dog lover and avid runner. My friends describe me as a driven, motivated, and disciplined individual; I try my best to achieve my goals and aspirations, and am not afraid of working hard for what I want to achieve.Studying Communication Studies with a Second Major in Business, I find myself intrigued by the power of marketing, persuasion, and communication, and how it has the power to shape attitudes and influence behaviour. My competencies lie in qualitative consumer research (e.g.: focus group discussions, ethnographic studies) and quantitative surveys as I am always interested in diving deep into the needs and values of the people around me to understand better their motivations and interests. Outside of school, I love to go for runs and I enjoy exploring new routes and experiences. I also had the amazing opportunity of serving as a Military Dog Handler during my National Service, and am proficient in managing dog health and nutrition. My dream is to empower others to lead healthier and more active lifestyles despite our hectic and packed schedules. Having undergone a transformational weight-loss experience thanks to National Service, I have found myself to find the value of investing in one's own health. Lastly, I have also had a wealth of leadership opportunities and experiences, having served as the President of the Student Council in both my Secondary School and my Junior College. Other than serving as the Assistant Publicity Head for the NTU Runners' Club or the Vice-Chairperson for NTUSU's Welfare Initiatives Committee in my first year of University, I also held the position of the President of the 5th Tamarind Hall Council in the subsequent year.
