About Desiree Brown
With more than 15 years of experience in local government and work within the field of Special Education with the District of Columbia Government as a Parent Coordinator, I am focused on delivering solutions to nonprofit and education environments. My tireless efforts regarding policy analysis, staff development, public speaking, project management, contract and procurement, and ongoing parent outreach and engagement have been critical to my success. Having strengthened family support systems for DC’s infants and toddlers, I journeyed further into the field of Special Education by taking a position as a Director for a Project of National Significance with the Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities. Briefly, I also served as Director of the DC’s Parent Training and Information Center (PTI), where I strengthened my team of Educational Advocates through a uniform system of service coordination, parent training and information dissemination, staff management and development. My tenure as the State Advisory Panel Coordinator and Special Assistant for Community and Parent Relations allowed me to make an impact at the state level through policy development. I began and remain in this journey since of the birth of my son, who accessed services and supports, and because affecting change for others moved my heart.
