Shortlisted for a 1 week observership cum internship at the Emergency Medicine Department of MGM Healthcare, Chennai. 8 hour shifts were covered in a team of 2 where we would observe and discuss various cases coming in and at times, assist the physician in examination of patients. We had the opportunity to observe a code blue, red zoned patients of majorly cardiovascular complications. We would attend rounds held by the consultants and were required to discuss outcomes and diagnosis of the admitted patients with the residents. Topics on critical care were touched upon like the GCS and importance of triage. On one of the days, I had the chance to observe a facial plastic and reconstructive surgery involving wide excision of an oropharyngeal carcinoma scheduled for free flap reconstruction. Post operative follow up was done and recovery was made note of. A detailed report of the experience and cases was compiled to measure what all I had picked up during my term.
