Hello, I am a junior pursuing a B.S. in Finance at The University of Texas at Dallas. I chose a career in Finance as I have always had an interest in understanding how businesses are run and earn money. In addition, I spent the early part of my childhood with my grandparents and was fascinated by my Grandpa’s skills in earning money from his American and Indian stock portfolios. While in high school, I got opportunities to attend business classes and participate in basic business activities. This further increased my interest in money management and encouraged me to read articles relating to Finance and fintech. My earliest experience in the business field was working as a cashier at my school store at Allen Academy. Working in this position enabled me to experience firsthand the sale process and the accounting that had to be done after sales. I also learned that cash is unique, and one has to be careful in collecting it and handing it over to the school later. This helped me to learn more about pricing, leadership, and communication skills. During the pandemic, I started my informal neighborhood detailing business, which allowed me to understand pricing and value and how to attract, engage, and maintain customers. I learned time management in order to balance my academics and extracurricular activities. My small business made me passionate about learning the business side from an owner’s perspective. At The University of Texas at Dallas, I plan on advancing both my knowledge and skills in this position and hope to bring these newfound skills to any future employer.
