I obtained Bachelor of Engineering in Mining in 2001 from Orissa School of Mining Engineering, Keonjhar. I did M. Tech in Mine Planning and Design from Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad in 2004 and Ph.D. in Mining Engineering in 2008 from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. I joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in June, 2008. My areas of specialization include mine ventilation, sub-surface environmental engineering and stowing/backfilling with fly ash. My research interest lies in mine ventilation and environmental engineering, spontaneous combustion of coal, mine explosions, radiation monitoring in uranium mines, application of CFD in mine ventilation and environment, characterization of fly ash for possible utilization in geotechnical applications. I am actively involved in R&D and industry sponsored projects in the aforementioned areas. I have published more than 50 technical papers in reputed national and international journals and conference proceedings. I am a recipient of MGMI Bronze Medal from The Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI) in the year 2008 and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Prize in 2009 and The Hindustan Zinc Ltd Prize in 2016 from The Institution of Engineers (India) for my technical papers published in their journals. I have been jointly conferred the 1st State Bank of India Best Researcher Award for the year 2011-12 during the 35th Annual Convocation of ISM for contribution in maximum resource generation for the institute in the financial year 2011-12. I have also been conferred Sukumar Rakshit Award for the year 2013-14 by The Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI) and Canara Bank Research Publication Award-2015 for Department of Mining Engineering by Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
