I lead and coordinate a teaching team of 7 teaching assistants and 13 graders for Earth Systems 10: Introduction to Earth Systems - an introductory, 4-unit course with over 300 students. I lead the teaching team at weekly meetings where we plan and create course content including discussion section materials, homework assignments, and exam questions. Additionally, I lead two weekly discussion sections, hold weekly office hours for students, and serve as a liaison to the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC). In 2022, I will serve as a teaching assistant for the Earth Systems senior capstone course.

I participated in proceedings with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on topics related to demand response, resource adequacy, effective load carrying capability, and distributed energy resources. I assisted in creating and summarizing proceeding comments from California state energy agencies, investor-owned utilities, and other environmental agencies. I also produced maps in QGIS displaying renewable energy projects in the CAISO generator interconnection queue and created a database in Excel to keep inventory of over 80 CAISO map layers.

I conducted research with a multi-disciplinary team of scholars on the potential of renewable energy development in the Bay Area rangelands, leading the geographic information systems (GIS) portion of the project using QGIS. I examined the potential for utility-scale solar on privately owned rangelands using satellite imagery and over 145,000 geospatial data-points from The DeepSolar Project. I also utilized land cover shapefiles and DEM raster data to site optimal locations for solar development on Bay Area rangelands. Additionally, I coordinated meetings and interviews with professors, researchers, and vegetation specialists from public agencies such as CAL-FIRE and Santa Clara Valley Water District.

I served as a docent at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve of Stanford University. To become a docent, I completed a two-quarter class with extensive learning of the land at Jasper Ridge. Classes were focused on the ecosystems and the natural history of the land ranging from the present to as far back as the Jurassic. Additionally, I completed a 10 week research project investigating the pollination biology of the Yerba Santa plant. As a full-fledged docent, I led tours of the biological preserve and educated the public about the research projects being conducted by ecologists and conservation biologists at the Sun Field Research Station.

I conducted research in the Payne Paleobiology lab of the Department of Geological Science in the School of Earth, Energy, and Environmental Sciences. My research focused on species responses to an ocean warming event that occurred from 2014 to 2016 along the western coast of continental United States. We looked specifically at how species of gastropods and bivalves in the rocky intertidal are shifting their latitudinal ranges in response to ocean warming by studying occurrence records of each species. We used data from Global Biodiversity Information Facility and from scientific literature to run analyses in R to examine the extent of the range shifts due to a variety of variables such as sea surface temperature and body size of species.

For 10 weeks I studied species range shifts in response to an ocean warming event along the western coast of continental United States. Utilising R programming language, I conducted statistical analyses related to the magnitude and direction of the range shifts due to sea surface warming using data from Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and scientific literature.

Conducted scientific research as part of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Center for Community OutReach Development (CORD) in the Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology. As a summer research intern, I studied a mutated co-receptor in a signalling pathway involved in cell embryonic development of the frog genus Xenopus. I learned and conducted lab techniques such as polymerase chain reactions (PCR), bacterial transformations, and subcloning of DNA.
