Decision Science Graduate Intern @ DisneyI have always loved working with numbers. As a young child, I just couldn't get enough math. I have a distinct memory of third-grade me hanging on to every word as my grandpa taught me the intuition behind calculus using just graph paper and a pen. As I grew older, I knew that I wanted to eventually work in a STEM field.Today, I am a PhD student studying Statistics at Duke University. I find statistics to be a fascinating discipline that allows for a wide range of applications and collaborations. To me, statistics is the perfect intersection of mathematics and computation. Statistics allows for raw data to be processed, analyzed, and interpreted in order to understand the world around us and to make better decisions. I enjoy both the theoretical and applied side to statistics, having earned minors in both mathematics and computer science in order to build up my skills in both the mathematical and computational aspects of statistics. I have also taken a wide range of statistical classes, covering everything from advanced probability theory to R programming to Bayesian statistics.The more I learn, the more I am blown away by the breadth of the field of statistics and the power of solving problems by analyzing data in intelligent ways. I am excited to continue to learn and grow and improve my ability to solve these difficult problems in new and creative ways.
