As a writer I have had my short stories published in numerous magazines, a scripted podcast, and I conduct interviews with authors for Nightmare Magazine on a regular basis. That's probably my favorite part of my work there; I give our talented writers the chance to feel like a celebrity as I gush about how good their stories are and get to ask them whatever I want about their life experiences, thoughts, and philosophies going into their careers.Editing and proofreading have always been my strong suit. Along with Nightmare and Lightspeed magazines, where I have worked for almost a decade, I have three years of experience with extremely complex and dense scientific papers at MDPI, where I've practiced working with papers on chemistry, physics, epidemiology, language, and practically anything else you can think of.At my current job at the Code Reviser's Office, I have to take filings from every agency in Washington and edit them to our publishable standards. I also act as the contact and outreach point for intake, retype fillings into our system, proofread them both visually and orally, and publish a collection of these diverse filings biweekly. I wear a lot of hats for this job and have had to learn the intricacies of the Revised Code of Washington, Washington Administrative Code, and the Washington State Register, each of which is almost a language in and of itself, with particular rules and shared terminology essential to the work that I've had to learn on the job. I'm proud of the work I do here and how it benefits people across the entire state and even all states, should some of our legal code become common practice!I am looking for a part-time or freelance position where I can write copy, edit, or proofread. My experience with both creative, horrifying and thought-provoking fiction and hard, scientific, bureaucratic nonfiction means I can work with pretty much anything, and due to the "jumping directly into the deep end" manner in which I began and excelled in all of my jobs both past and present, I'm an exceptionally quick learner for any in-house quirks or unique demands I'll encounter. Thank you for reading, I appreciate your time, and I look forward to working with you!
