At my lovely current job at the Code Reviser's Office, I have to take filings from every agency in Washington and edit them to our publishable standards, act as the contact and outreach point for intake, retype them into our system, proofread them both visually and orally, and publish a collection of these diverse filings biweekly. I wear a lot of hats for this job and have had to learn the intricacies of the Revised Code of Washington, Washington Administrative Code, and the Washington State Register, each of which is almost a language in and of itself, with particular rules and shared terminology essential to the work that I've had to learn on the job. I'm proud of the work I do here and how it benefits people across the entire state and even all states, should some of our legal code become common practice!

I have had the pleasure of working online at Nightmare Magazine and Lightspeed Magazine for nearly a decade now. Both publications are esteemed showcases for new talent in Horror, Science Fiction, and Fantasy, and both publications have seen multiple nominations for Hugo Awards, Stokers, and World Fantasy Awards for Best Short Story and Best Editor. Run by John Joseph Adams, called the “reigning king of the Anthology world” by Barnes and Noble, Nightmare Magazine and Lightspeed Magazine are some of the most successful genre magazines today.While employed at these magazines, I have:-Worked with authors to write and edit their in-magazine bios-Proofread books that have later gone into publication at Penguin Random House-Evaluated and rated submissions based on merit for publication-Updated the website, added hyperlinks, and generally beautified its presentation-Compiled author information from multiple sources-Edited special editions such as “People of Colo(u)r Destroy Science Fiction!”

In this role, I edited scientific papers from authors across the world, often with English not as their native language. My job was to ensure that grammar, spelling, and in-house rules were all up to publishable standards, which involved both research and in-the-moment judgment. If I didn't know what a specific in a paper meant, I had to look into it myself to make sure it was used properly. As such, I gained a lot of general scientific knowledge and, perhaps more importantly, learned how to do my own research on topics and ideas I had no previous exposure to in this role. This has helped me increase my versatility considerably, and I now know I can take copy in any format on any subject and be able to edit it concisely and precisely.
