Junior biology student with leadership experience and strong foundational skills in microbiology. Skilled in working efficiently in the laboratory with proper etiquette and technique. Seeking undergraduate research experience with the University of North Texas. In my time at the University of North Texas, I have gained a thorough understanding conducting research from scratch, as well as identifying microbes through morphology and other characteristics. I currently have a GPA of 3.6 and have maintained this throughout college while working as a supplemental instructor (SI) and volunteering. Being an SI has enhanced my tutoring skills and understanding of biology concepts. It has given me lots of experience in trial and error and seeing what works best for my sessions. I’ve been able to apply these problem-solving skills to some of my labs. I have done both independent and team-based projects involving the harboring and identification of microbes in my coursework. During my second semester, I performed research under one of my professors where I studied an undiscovered bacteriophage. Information I gathered included plaque morphology, genome size, and a host assay, where lysogeny of the phage was tested. I published this information into a database. This project improved my skills in utilizing laboratory equipment, preparing plates, and harboring growth of microbes. I was also part of a team research project where we identified bacteria within a soil sample. My role was performing some tests and recording information. Procedures I performed included a Kirby-Bauer test, preparing test plates, and many rounds of purification.
