• Created and developed, along with several NHL players, the NHLPA’s charity, the NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund in 1999:o Goals & Dreams is the largest grassroots hockey program in the world.o G&D has donated more than $24million to communities and hockey since its inception. o More than 60,000 children in 34 countries have benefitted from the program.o Created a “world tour” to celebrate the NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund’s 10th Anniversary. “10 Countries in 10 Days” was a huge success and a documentary of the tour aired on CBC in 2009.• Chairman for the NHLPA Golf Classic which raised over $2 million for charity since its inception.• Spearheaded Hockey For Haiti with World Vision and former NHLer George Laraques, to raise money to rebuild a hospital in Port au Prince, Haiti. More than $1 million dollars was raised by the NHLPA. • Launched the NHLPA Beard-a-thon, a fundraising initiative for Hockey Fans in Canada that benefitted the Heart and Stroke Foundation which has raised more than $300,000. • Facilitated hundreds of appearances for NHL players at charitable functions and / or corporate sponsor events. • Worked with blue-chip sponsors to engage NHL players in their advertising campaigns (Verizon, Kraft, Scotiabank etc.) • Worked as a player relations rep during the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.• Helped develop and launch the NHLPA’s Carbon Neutral Challenge with NHL player Andrew Ference and the David Suzuki Foundation. • Worked as the PR Director for Gold Medal winning Team Canada during the 1997 World Championship Tournament in Helsinki, Finland. • Worked as the media relations manager at the 1996 & 2004 World Cup of Hockey Tournaments.• Smith is a National Council Member of the Garth Brooks Foundation and sits on the board for the NHL / NHLPA’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, OneGoal Foundation and also acts as the • Is active in Burlington Minor Hockey as a coach and volunteer.
