Emergency Medical Technician
CurrentRespond to 911 calls and provide prompt emergency medical care to ill or injured patients. Assess patients and develop an appropriate treatment plan on the scene and while en-route to the hospital or medical facility. Properly operate an emergency vehicle. Work in either a BLS (Basic Life Support) ambulance alongside another EMT or an ALS (Advanced Life Support) ambulance with a paramedic. Assist paramedics in various medical interventions such as lab blood draws, EKGs, and medication administration. Complete patient charts following a call using appropriate medical terminology. Perform daily unit checks to assure all equipment is working properly. Provide adequate CPR when necessary. Obtain patient vitals either manually or with the use of a cardiac monitor and provide oxygen to patients when necessary via nasal cannula, non-rebreather mask, or bag-valve-mask.
