Work involved using python and bash to automate day-to-day tasks and correlate data sets for analysis to guide project decisions. Utilized Jupyter Notebooks to develop python scripts to be shared with the broader enterprise. Work included analyzing router configurations, including Huawei and Cisco, to accurately map adjacent networks and identify misconfigurations affection network security, as well as identifying intended network traffic flow through core routers and switches. Utilized Apache Pig, a high-level language to generate programs for Apache Hadoop, and a large Shodan dataset to character devices reachable from the internet. Served as an internal certified trainer responsible for on-the-job training for my section during week-to-week operations. Cyber Defenders is a ten week summer internship in which I was assigned to work with a team on a project that was relevant to lab. The project that I was a part of was a behavior based Intrusion detection system (IDS). The IDS analyzes the information that is found in Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) messages in realtime. By looking for certain behaviors, or set of behaviors, we could accurately detect if a process was malicious. This provides an advantage over classical signature which doesn’t detect new malware or zero day vulnerabilities. The IDS is programmed in Java and resides client-side. Behavior analytics were developed using Esper, an Event Processing Language, which is syntactically similar to SQL.

Working in the Cyber Security lab under the guidance of Dr. Zhiqiang Lin. Current responsibilities involve researching current hardware features on Intel CPU and how they may assist in malware analysis, specific hardware features include the Last Branch Record (LBR) and Branch Trace Store (BTS).
