About Devin Robbins
Earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability and a Bachelor of Science in American Indian Studies at Arizona State University. I am originally from Flagstaff, Arizona, and also a member of the Navajo Nation. I am Tł'ááshchí'í, born for ’Áshįįhí, maternal grandfather’s clan is Naashtʼézhí and paternal grandfather’s clan is Tsé Deeshghiizhnii. I greatly accredit my heritage and lifelong residence in northern Arizona for my current interests in environmental studies and American Indian issues.I intend to remedy and alleviate Indigenous sustainability issues not only by restoring justice but also by recognizing tribal sovereignty and preserving spiritual harmony. In order to produce long-term, successful, and compassionate sustainable solutions, Indigenous knowledge and sustainability must go hand-in-hand. To me, sustainability means more than simply “meeting the current needs without compromising the needs of future generations”; sustainability is about understanding our roles, impact, and relationships with the environment to instill proper intimacy with the ecological world. When the presence and autonomy of many Indigenous nations are acknowledged within numerous sustainable solution strategies, issues such as energy development, environmental exploitation of sacred sites, and treaty rights violations can better become amended. Indigenous nations hold essential Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEC) acquired from thousands of years of living with the land thereby becoming a critical asset for better resource management, conservation, and global climate change mitigation. Empowering Indigenous sovereignty is to empower global sustainability.
