Justice Forward breaks the cycle of incarceration and funds essential programs for individuals in the Harris County and Galveston County Specialty Courts to help them become independent and productive members of our community.

Assigned by HCCSCD to startup a new non-profit organization titled "Probation Works". The vision for the nonprofit was to provide individuals on probation with the correct skills in order for them to quickly assimilate back to our community. The nonprofit also focused on developing employment opportunities, housing options, transportation and child-care to support the vision. One of the key responsibilities was developing strong external relations with the business leaders and nonprofit world. The startup was gaining significant traction in the community, but the program was put on pause due to funding related issues.

For over three years, I managed and led 600+ employees, including prosecutors, investigators and support staff. My team and I developed, advocated for, and managed a $78.7 million budget which resulted in the addition of 100+ new positions. During my administration, we created and implemented a comprehensive performance evaluation system for all employees. I also worked to establish vibrant community outreach programs; participated in regular meetings with non-profit and community advocacy groups, and in town hall meetings and created programs in schools. As Chair of the Harris County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, I worked with other criminal justice stakeholders to secure a $2 million Safety + Justice Challenge grant from the MacArthur Foundation. We recruited and managed a volunteer intern program comprised of students at the high school, college, and law school levels. I raised $1.5 million in the 2016 campaign for re-election.

Judge Brock Thomas and I established a law firm with a focus on citizens accused of state and federal offenses.

I supervised the daily operations of one of twenty-two Criminal District Courts, presiding over an average of fifty jury trials per year. I also volunteered to preside over one of four STAR Drug Court dockets.

I spent my entire career at the DA's Office in the Trial Bureau. Beginning in the Misdemeanor Division, I worked my way up to the level of Felony District Court Chief. During my tenure, I was first chair attorney on over 100 jury trials, including seven capital murder cases. In addition to my job duties, I graduated and then instructed at the National College of District Attorneys. I was also an instructor for the State Bar of Texas, as well as the Texas District and County Attorneys Association.
