I worked with Dr. Cheryl Talley and Dr. Kathryn Shows on a National Science Foundation funded academic intervention called Project Knowledge (PK). PK was first designed to help incoming Virginia State University freshmen to succeed in their STEM major. Project Knowledge has now transitioned to Petersburg High School---also intending to enhance academic and career aspirations. My duties included selecting appropriate inventories for scientific inquiry, collecting and conducting thematic analysis on qualitative data i.e. Focus groups, tracking longitudinal data, formulating program procedures and event ideas, creating and presenting posters at local and national conferences, and composing manuscripts for high impact journals.

I assisted Drs. John Fife and Dhymsy-Vixamar Owens with a study aimed to investigate the impact of various behavioral, psychological and sociocultural factors on diabetes risk in Black college students in America. The study explored the degree to which these factors effect diabetes risk, specific to a currently underrepresented population. Duties include soliciting participants, reviewing literature, assisting with future study development, collecting biometric and non-biometric data, creating surveys using Qualtrics, data entry, data analysis using SPSS, writing research proposals, and presenting at university and national conferences.

I interned with the Assistant Dean & Department Chair of Psychology, Dr. Kimberly Boyd on a joint project with the US Department of Justice seeking to provide training for faculty and students, in order to reduce school violence. The VIEW Project is designed to assist with preparing high school students with building emotional regulation, motivation, and cognitive mindfulness practices, in order to prevent violence, promote mental health awareness, and achieve mindfulness through Virtual Reality (VR) experiences and educational workshops. My duties included assisting participants with VR experiences in community settings, designing recruitment materials, and generating novel ideas for VR use future studies.
