As a part of the Rockland Conservation and Service Corp (once part of AmeriCorp) I worked at Cornell Cooperative with the Hudson Valley Fish Advisory. My job was to inform people in Rockland County about the PCB infested fish in the hudson river. Consuming these PCB’s by eating the fish can cause cancers in men and women as well delayed development and learning disabilities in children. Pregnant women who consume PCB’s put their child at risk for low birth weight. I traveled to local Planned Parenthoods and HIV testing sites to drop off literature. I attended the Women’s Health Convention at New Square (a primarily Hasidic community). This job forced me to work with people from all works of life opening my eyes the different people in my community.

During my short time at Arts to Grow I took on several projects with independent thinking and execution. My key project was researching and sending out job descriptions for our search for new volunteer roles. I conducted extensive internet research, follow-up with phone calls and connected with several agencies who distributed the job posting specifically for volunteers. I organized spreadsheets on Microsoft Exel of donors making contacting them much simpler. I out reached to donors by phone call email and mail and organized files in both file cabinets and on the computer program BaseCamp.
