My final Degree Apprenticeship placement and subsequent level 2 Engineer role allowed me to grow further as an Engineer. I had the opportunity to attend working groups engaging with international stakeholders to maintain the high regard in which the UK is held, among a variety of other tasks. As well as this I also been undertook platform and role specific training to improve my understanding and more effectively complete my role, becoming an asset to the team

Returning to the F-35 Delivery Team with a much greater experience level offered me new challenges and the opportunity to take on more responsibility. I completed similar work to my previous placement from a new more leadership focused perspective, directing and guiding a small team to deliver efficiency improvements and regular outputs.

I was able to experience working in Defense at a far lower Technical Readiness Level while seconded at DSTL. I primarily worked on a communications research project that saw me gathering information both within government organisations and industry leaders. I delivered a comprehensive, high quality report to the sponsor that satisfied all requirements in full.

I joined an experienced engineer in uplifting one of the DE&S Air Domain's most fundamental management process' that is used to assess whether engineers are suitably qualified to hold a Letter of Aviation Authority. I had to follow a stringent amendment procedure and help present the eventual product to high level staff at a Configuration Control Board. I was also given the opportunity to better understand and get involved with second party assurance activity.

Whilst completing this interesting and insightful placement I supported a variety of squadron activity. Notably this included working with DE&S's Future Capability Group on the first round of the Unmanned Air System Heavy Left Challenge that saw a variety of systems compete in a series of tests to gauge their performance

I was able to take the lead on an internal project quality assurance process for this placement. This process involved interviews with colleagues to assess their project outputs against a lengthy criteria set then, producing a report delivered to high level staff. I completed multiple reviews stretching across the CADMID cycle during my tenure.

During this placement I transitioned to remote working due to the Covid-19 Pandemic but did not let that impact my work's quality. I was still able to deliver an investigative project, technical instructions and assist with advancing a long-term project into it's main delivery phase.

A large amount of my time in this placement was spent managing a documentation amendment process. This involved meta-data driven digital record keeping, a fast-paced schedule in order to meet customer need and direct communication with high level staff within the team and user community. Alongside these activities I also produced local business instructions and policy leaflets.

During the first stage of my Degree Apprenticeship I began my BEng studies and obtained an NVQ level 2 that involved practical engineering skills such as turning and composite manufacture. I also completed a series of visits to MoD establishments to better understand the businesses user community.
