I am a seasoned litigator, having argued over 40 cases before United States Courts of Appeals and tried over 100 cases in state and federal courts. Before joining Steptoe & Johnson, I served as an Associate General Counsel for The University of Tennessee where I handled litigation involving employment matters, including allegations of unlawful discrimination and harassment, student discipline, and tort claims. I counseled the university on federal regulations including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA), and drafted and reviewed contracts for goods and services. I also practiced employment litigation with Ford & Harrison LLP in Florida and Tennessee where I advised clients on litigation avoidance and compliance with federal, state and local laws governing hiring, firing, compensating, and disciplining employees.
